Location
MURPHY’S presents Cork X Southwest Music & Arts Festival 2011 this year takes place in the most special venue, the stunning 200 acre countryside setting of Liss Ard Estate in West Cork, Ireland
The beautiful 200-acre estate and its Georgian Liss Ard House and Victorian Liss Ard Lake Lodge country manor houses have been carefully refurbished to retain the elegance and charm of bygone eras, while conferring luxury and modern conveniences. The Stunning views on the lake and the ornamental gardens further add to the simple yet luxurious minimalist style, and with woodland walks with specially designed pathways, Liss Ard Estate offers guests a truly contemplative experience.
The magnificent gardens include the 'Crater' - designed by James Turrell, the extraordinary American artist who is world-renowned for his works on the theme of 'Light', and the Swiss architect Gert Burla. The Crater was created for the Irish skies to be appreciated by the spectators lying on the stone structures at the bottom - the dome-effect that is created in the elliptical frame is truly an unforgettable experience
When it was operating as a full-service hotel, not only did the Tatler Travel Guide 1999 decorate Liss Ard Lake Lodge as "One of the 101 Best Hotels worldwide", the Liss Ard offering was also extensively covered in magazines such as Vogue and Select.
Liss Ard has been a retreat in the past to numerous celebrities, including Oasis, Lou Reed, Van Morrison, Patti Smith and Nick Cave.
